Ogun Command recovers over ₦23 million for fraud victims, resolves 1,700 disputes through ADR

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has arrested 210 suspects over offences ranging from vandalism and fraud to illegal mining within the last 18 months.
The State Commandant, Mrs. Remember Ekundayo, disclosed this during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
NSCDC Intensifies Crackdown on Economic Sabotage
Ekundayo said the arrests were part of the command’s intensified operations aimed at tackling economic crimes and protecting critical national infrastructure across Ogun State.
According to her, the command’s activities have largely been intelligence-driven, enabling operatives to prevent several criminal acts involving pipeline vandalism, railway corridor breaches, and attacks on power installations.
She noted that the operations reflect the corps’ determination to strengthen internal security and combat economic sabotage within the state.
“The command has continued to embark on intelligence-driven operations that have prevented several criminal activities, including the protection of pipelines, railway corridors, and power installations across the state,” she stated.
₦23 Million Recovered for Fraud Victims
The Commandant further revealed that the NSCDC successfully recovered more than ₦23 million for victims of fraud-related cases during the period under review.
She added that the command also resolved over 1,700 disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, helping to reduce prolonged conflicts and ease pressure on the judicial system.
According to Ekundayo, the achievements underscore the importance of proactive security operations combined with community engagement and mediation strategies.
Media Partnership Crucial to Security Efforts
Ekundayo emphasised the strategic role of the media in promoting public awareness and supporting security operations.
She said collaboration between security agencies and journalists remains critical in addressing security challenges and sensitising citizens on issues affecting public safety.
“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” she told members of the NUJ.
The Commandant reiterated that the NSCDC is empowered by law to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism, tackle economic sabotage, and support emergency response operations.
NUJ Pledges Continued Support
Responding, Chairman of the Ogun State NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, commended the NSCDC for its efforts in maintaining security across the state.
He assured the corps of the union’s continued support, pledging that journalists would sustain accurate and timely reporting on security-related developments.
Olanrewaju also stressed the importance of responsible journalism in fostering public confidence and strengthening cooperation between citizens and security agencies.
The latest figures released by the Ogun NSCDC Command highlight the growing role of intelligence-led operations in combating criminal activities and safeguarding critical infrastructure. As security challenges evolve, authorities are increasingly relying on collaboration with the media and community stakeholders to improve public safety and curb economic sabotage.
