The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has condemned the alleged assault of a senior nursing officer at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, calling for immediate police protection and full investigation. The group also raised concerns over alleged intimidation and a reported attempted intrusion at the victim’s residence.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the forum said Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Mrs. Odusola Oluwakemi, a widow, was allegedly attacked on January 15, 2026, by the Head of Nursing Services at FMC Abeokuta, Mrs. Fagoyinbo Abosede.
The ENF described the incident as severe, stating that the victim sustained life-threatening injuries that required medical attention. It added that preliminary police engagement began after an initial refusal by the suspect to respond to summons at a local station.
The group further alleged that the suspect claimed connections to influential political figures, a development it said could undermine the investigation if not properly addressed.
Alleged Intimidation at Victim’s Home
Tensions reportedly escalated when an unidentified man was said to have scaled the fence of Mrs. Odusola’s residence. The incident, according to the forum, has raised fears of targeted intimidation linked to the earlier workplace altercation.
Neighbours reportedly raised an alarm after electricity was restored, causing the intruder to flee. While initial suspicion pointed to burglary, the victim’s family believes the incident may be connected to the ongoing dispute at the hospital.
The ENF warned that the situation presents an immediate security risk to the victim and called for urgent protective measures.
Forum Demands Police Action
National Coordinator of ENF, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, commended the Ogun State Police Command for taking statements from the accused but urged accelerated investigation and protection for the victim.
The forum also alleged a broader pattern of intimidation and victimisation within the hospital’s nursing department, calling for institutional reforms.
It demanded:
- Immediate police protection and surveillance for Mrs. Odusola
- Full investigation into the alleged assault and home intrusion
- Prosecution of all individuals involved regardless of influence
- Management intervention at FMC Abeokuta to address internal violence
Call for Accountability
The ENF stressed that healthcare workers must operate in safe and dignified conditions, warning against interference or abuse of power.
“Nurses deserve dignity, respect, and fair treatment. No one is above the law, irrespective of influence or political backing,” Olamide said.
Attempts to obtain responses from FMC Abeokuta management and the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The case highlights growing concerns about workplace safety and internal conflict within Nigeria’s health sector. It also raises questions about institutional accountability and protection for healthcare workers facing alleged intimidation or violence.
