Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has confirmed ongoing financial discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over his contract.

He, however, maintained that his focus remains on team development and upcoming international fixtures.

Chelle, whose current contract runs until January 2027, said negotiations are being handled by his agent while he concentrates on coaching responsibilities.

The coach spoke amid growing scrutiny over his future following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

“Yes, there are financial issues to be discussed and resolved, but I leave them to my agent to handle with the federation,” Chelle said.

He emphasised that his immediate priority is preparing the team and assessing players ahead of upcoming competitions.

Chelle is expected to intensify scouting within the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), as part of efforts to strengthen the national team.

The coach revealed plans to visit Nigeria to monitor domestic league matches and evaluate emerging talents.

He is also exploring options among uncapped players of Nigerian descent abroad to broaden the talent pool.

The approach forms part of a broader rebuilding strategy aimed at improving squad depth and competitiveness ahead of key tournaments.

Unity Cup, Friendlies Key to Preparation

Nigeria will defend its title at the Unity Cup in London, beginning with a fixture against Zimbabwe at The Valley on May 26.

Depending on results, the team could face either Jamaica or India in subsequent rounds.

The tournament will be followed by high-profile international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, offering further opportunities for squad assessment.
