FCT Minister says key infrastructure projects must meet delivery deadlines under Renewed Hope Agenda

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has directed contractors handling major infrastructure projects across Abuja to ensure timely completion ahead of activities marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
The Minister gave the directive during an extensive inspection tour of ongoing projects across the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday, stressing that the transformation agenda under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” initiative must be delivered according to schedule.
Wike Inspects Strategic Infrastructure Projects
The inspection tour covered several critical infrastructure sites, including the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange, Airport Road to Kuje corridor, Kuje-Gwagwalada dualisation project, the redesigned Abuja City Gate, and the Wuse/Central Business District link road.
Speaking during the inspection, Wike expressed satisfaction with the level of work on some of the projects, particularly the remodeled City Gate being handled by Julius Berger.
Describing the project as a landmark development, the Minister said it would significantly improve the aesthetic and security profile of the nation’s capital.
“It’s a very good and beautiful work. In the next month, anyone coming to Abuja will see a different landscape,” Wike stated.
“This is what is required to let you know that you are in a capital city. If Abuja residents require the best, then we are going to provide the best,” he added.
City Gate To Feature AI Surveillance Systems
The Minister disclosed that the redesigned City Gate would operate as a high-tech facility equipped with round-the-clock surveillance systems, permanent security installations, and artificial intelligence-enabled monitoring infrastructure.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at improving security and enhancing the experience of residents and visitors entering Abuja.
Contractors Commended, Others Warned
At the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange project being executed by CBC Global, Wike commended the quality and pace of work, expressing confidence that the project would attain about 95 percent completion within two weeks.
He also praised Arab Contractors for progress recorded on the Airport Road to Kuje Junction project, saying the road is expected to be completed before the end of May.
However, the Minister expressed concern over delays on the Wuse/Central Area link road project despite acknowledging the quality of engineering work being carried out.
“Quality is not in doubt, but I’m still doubtful about completion on time. I’m pleading with the company to keep to the timing because these are projects we have scheduled to be inaugurated for the third anniversary of this administration,” he warned.
Major Projects Set For Commissioning
Wike revealed that several large-scale projects across the FCT are lined up for inauguration during the anniversary celebrations.
According to him, the projects include major water treatment and supply schemes in Bwari, Karu, Orozo, and Ushafa, alongside critical road infrastructure in Katampe, Gishiri, Gaduwa, and the Research Institution axis near Body of Benchers and Nile University.
He further listed satellite town road interventions, including the Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki Road, portions of the Kuje-Gwagwalada corridor, and the Bazango-Kubwa road network.
The Minister also disclosed that work on the relocation and development of the Apo Mechanic Village site in Wasa remains part of the administration’s infrastructure priorities.
FCTA Assures Contractors Of Financial Support
Wike assured contractors that the Federal Capital Territory Administration would continue to meet its financial obligations to ensure smooth execution of projects.
“The project list is bigger than I can count at the moment. By the time the committee finishes the assessment, we will have the full details of all the projects,” he said.
“We are very happy with the level of commitment by various companies, and we will do our part to fulfill our financial obligations,” the Minister added.
The renewed push by the FCT Administration to complete strategic infrastructure projects reflects growing efforts to reposition Abuja as a modern capital city under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. With several landmark projects nearing completion, attention now shifts to whether contractors can meet the strict timelines ahead of the administration’s third anniversary celebrations.
