Simeone’s men survive Barcelona comeback despite second-leg defeat.

Atletico Madrid have secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after eliminating FC Barcelona with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Despite losing 2-1 in the second leg, Diego Simeone’s side held firm to progress, ending Barcelona’s latest bid for European glory.
Barcelona started aggressively at the Metropolitano Stadium, taking an early lead through Lamine Yamal, who capitalised on defensive hesitation to score within four minutes.
Ferran Torres doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, levelling the tie on aggregate and putting Atletico under sustained pressure.
However, Atletico responded swiftly. Ademola Lookman pulled one back in the 31st minute after a defensive lapse, restoring the aggregate advantage for the hosts following their 2-0 first-leg win.
Barcelona pushed for a decisive third goal but failed to convert several chances, with Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso making crucial saves to keep his side in contention.
The visitors’ hopes suffered a major setback late in the match when defender Eric Garcia was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Reduced to 10 men, Barcelona struggled to maintain attacking momentum, allowing Atletico to withstand pressure and secure progression after eight minutes of stoppage time.
Early Barcelona Surge Falls Short
Barcelona dominated the opening stages, with Yamal and Torres exploiting Atletico’s defensive gaps. The visitors controlled possession and tempo but lacked the clinical edge needed to overturn the aggregate deficit.
Red Card Turns the Tide
Garcia’s late dismissal proved decisive. The numerical disadvantage limited Barcelona’s attacking options, allowing Atletico to close out the game and protect their aggregate lead.
The result marks Atletico Madrid’s return to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2017, reinforcing their status as a resilient knockout team. For Barcelona, the exit extends their wait for a sixth European title and raises questions about their ability to convert dominance into results at the highest level.
