A 34-year-old mother of six from Nenwe community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State is alleged to have suffered a brutal attack after fleeing what sources described as prolonged domestic abuse by her husband.
The survivor, whose identity is being withheld for safety reasons, was allegedly assaulted, publicly humiliated, abandoned in a forest and later banished from her community after reporting the matter to law enforcement authorities.

However, residents claimed the husband allegedly traced her new location on July 17 and attacked her.
“When she ran to her mother’s house, he allegedly followed her there and threatened her life if she refused to return,” a source familiar with the incident reportedly said.
The survivor was said to have later sought temporary shelter from a palm kernel trader who was reportedly one of her customers.

According to allegations from community members, the husband later arrived with a group of people who allegedly forced their way into the building.
The survivor was allegedly assaulted while the trader was restrained.
Sources further alleged that the attack escalated into a public assault involving several community members.

The most disturbing allegation in the case is that the survivor was allegedly stripped, physically assaulted, had her hair cut with broken bottles and suffered injuries during the attack.
Sources claimed she was later taken to an area described locally as an “evil forest” and abandoned.
She allegedly spent three days in the location before managing to crawl toward a main road, where good Samaritans reportedly discovered her and contacted her family.
The condition and whereabouts of the male trader who allegedly attempted to help her remain unclear, with residents expressing fears that he may have suffered serious harm during the incident.

Following the survivor’s decision to report the alleged crimes to security agencies, community sources alleged that she and her family were banished from Nenwe community.
The alleged banishment was reportedly carried out through directives linked to the traditional ruler (Igwe) and the President General (PG) of the community.

A community source alleged:
“The Igwe and the President General are trying to protect the image of the community instead of allowing justice to take its course.”
