The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a sweeping redeployment of senior officers across the Nigeria Police Force in a major organisational overhaul aimed at strengthening operations nationwide.

The move, announced in Abuja, is designed to reinforce command structures, improve leadership capacity, and reposition the Force for more effective service delivery amid evolving security challenges.

What Happened

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the redeployment affects several Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) across key commands, formations, and departments.

Among the AIG-level postings, AIG Ado Emmanuel was assigned to Research and Planning at Force Headquarters, Abuja, while AIG Joseph Eribo moves to the Department of Armament. AIG Miller Dantawaye takes over Operations, and AIG Henry Ifeanyi Uche heads Training and Development.

Other notable deployments include AIG Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo to the Police Affairs Branch, AIG Dahiru Mohammed to Zone 15, Maiduguri, and AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh to Zone 2, Lagos.

Key State Command Changes

At the state level, several Commissioners of Police were reassigned to strategic commands across the federation.

CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya was posted to Jigawa, CP Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola to Oyo, and CP Olubode Ojajuni to Ogun. CP Michael Adegoroye Falade takes charge in Ekiti, while CP Yakubu Useni Dankaro was deployed to Adamawa.

In high-profile commands, CP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed now heads the Federal Capital Territory Command, while CP Olatunji Olaiwola Fatai was posted to Lagos State Command.

Other deployments include CP Ahmed Mohammed Bello to Zamfara, CP Umar Ali Fagge to Katsina, and CP Hayatu Shaffa Hassan to Sokoto.

Specialised Units and Strategic Formations

The redeployment also reshaped leadership across specialised units and federal formations.

CP Akan Ezima was appointed Director of the NPF National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja, while CP Abbas Sule moves to the Special Protection Unit. CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue was posted to INTERPOL, Abuja, reinforcing Nigeria’s international policing interface.

Additional postings cover critical operational and administrative units, including SWAT, K9, FCID Annex offices, Police Academy (POLAC), and the Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, reflecting a broad-based restructuring beyond state commands.

Official Response

The police leadership said the postings align with ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at enhancing professionalism and responsiveness.

“The postings are in line with the Force’s commitment to an effective command structure and the strategic deployment of personnel,” the statement said.

The IGP charged the affected officers to deploy their experience in improving discipline, operational efficiency, and public trust in policing.
