The arrest occurred on June 5, 2026, when Sector 2 troops intercepted a vehicle at a routine checkpoint while it was en route to Shinkafi.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, a thorough search of the vehicle revealed a concealed weapons cache hidden inside a sack of millet.
Recovered items included:
- A locally fabricated pistol
- A magazine
- Over 1,000 rounds of ammunition
Security officials believe the suspect was part of a broader logistics chain supplying armed terrorist groups operating across the North-West.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the ammunition was being transported to criminal elements engaged in banditry, kidnapping, and attacks on rural communities.
The suspect is currently in custody while security agencies expand investigations to identify and dismantle the wider supply network allegedly behind the movement of arms across state lines.
Cattle Rustling Operation Foiled in Kaduna
In a separate operation, troops of Sector 1 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully thwarted an attempted cattle rustling attack in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Military sources said the operation was triggered after a distress call from a herder whose livestock had been stolen by armed criminals.
Troops were quickly deployed and strategically positioned along suspected escape routes used by the rustlers.
A firefight reportedly ensued when soldiers intercepted the fleeing criminals, forcing them to abandon the stolen cattle and escape into nearby forests.
The military described the operation as part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal economies tied to livestock theft, which remains a major financing source for armed groups in the region.
Military Intensifies North-West Crackdown on Armed Networks
The Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reiterated its commitment to dismantling terrorist and criminal supply chains across the North-West.
Authorities say recent operations reflect increased surveillance, intelligence-led interceptions, and coordinated military pressure targeting logistics networks, arms trafficking routes, and rural bandit enclaves.
The command also commended troops for what it described as professionalism, resilience, and rapid response capability, while urging residents to continue providing actionable intelligence to security forces.
Deadly Boko Haram Attack on Borno Military Base
While security gains were recorded in the North-West, the North-East theatre witnessed a violent escalation as Boko Haram insurgents attacked a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State.
Military sources confirmed that at least eight soldiers were killed during the early morning assault, which occurred around 4 a.m. on Friday during heavy rainfall.
According to a serving officer at the base, troops of the 162 Battalion were taken by surprise as insurgents stormed the facility in large numbers.
“They attacked us at 4 a.m. when it was raining. Eight soldiers were killed in action,” the source confirmed.
Other military insiders described the attack as highly coordinated, stating that the insurgents briefly overran sections of the base, overwhelming defensive positions before reinforcements could be mobilized.
Reports of Brutality and Beheadings
Additional military sources alleged that the attackers carried out extreme acts of violence during the assault, including the beheading of some soldiers.
Several other personnel were reportedly injured, while emergency response teams were deployed to reinforce the area and secure the facility.
Unverified visual materials reportedly obtained from the scene indicated extensive damage and casualties, though official confirmation from military headquarters was still pending at the time of filing this report.
