UMUAHIA, ABIA STATE — The Labour Party has declared that Governor Alex Otti’s administration has brought an end to what it described as decades of poor governance, economic stagnation, and infrastructural decay in Abia State, insisting that the state is now witnessing one of its most transformative periods since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.
The party made the assertion while assessing the governor’s three years in office, crediting his administration with significant achievements across critical sectors including road infrastructure, education, healthcare, public finance management, and civil service reforms.
According to the Labour Party, Otti’s emergence as governor in 2023 marked a historic turning point for Abia, a state long burdened by allegations of political mismanagement, abandoned projects, weak public institutions, and declining public confidence in government.
Labour Party Hails Otti’s Three-Year Scorecard
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the Labour Party said Governor Otti has demonstrated that accountable leadership and prudent management of public resources can deliver tangible development outcomes.
The party argued that the administration has successfully reversed years of underdevelopment through policies aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, improving service delivery, and restoring public trust in government institutions.
According to Asogwa, Abia residents are now witnessing visible improvements in governance that many citizens had considered impossible under previous administrations.
“Governor Alex Otti’s administration has shown that transparent and responsible leadership can transform a state and improve the lives of ordinary people,” the statement noted.
Infrastructure Renewal Takes Centre Stage
One of the key areas highlighted by the Labour Party is the administration’s aggressive infrastructure renewal programme.
The party maintained that several strategic roads across major urban centres and rural communities have either been reconstructed or rehabilitated, improving connectivity, boosting commercial activities, and reducing transportation challenges faced by residents.
Observers note that infrastructure development has remained a central pillar of the Otti administration’s agenda, with government officials repeatedly emphasizing the need to rebuild public assets neglected over the years.
The Labour Party argued that these interventions are helping to reposition Abia as a competitive economic destination in the South-East region.
Reforms Extend To Healthcare, Education And Civil Service
Beyond infrastructure, the party pointed to reforms in healthcare delivery, educational development, and public sector administration as evidence of the administration’s commitment to sustainable governance.

The statement also carries significant political implications as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
The Labour Party expressed confidence that Abia voters would support the continuation of ongoing reforms by renewing Governor Otti’s mandate if he seeks re-election.
Political observers interpret the party’s endorsement as an early effort to consolidate support around the governor’s administration while highlighting achievements that could shape future electoral debates.
