Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as part of ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting involved a delegation of South-East political stakeholders.

The engagement signals increasing momentum in early coalition-building efforts across regional and party lines.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Obi said the visit was part of broader consultations focused on the future of Nigeria and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The delegation included prominent political figures from the South-East, among them former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, as well as current and former lawmakers.

Obi, a presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has in recent weeks stepped up engagements with political leaders nationwide, positioning himself ahead of the party’s primary process.

He described the Abuja meeting as a strategic dialogue aimed at fostering national unity and exploring pathways to address Nigeria’s political and economic challenges.

The meeting with Jonathan follows Obi’s recent visit to Bauchi State, where he met with Governor Bala Mohammed alongside other stakeholders from the North-East.
