Wema Bank Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital banking and customer engagement as its flagship digital banking platform, ALAT, celebrates its ninth anniversary.

The bank said the milestone reflects its continued efforts to expand access to innovative financial services while improving customer experience through technology-driven solutions.

ALAT’s Journey in Digital Banking

Launched in 2017 as Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT was created to simplify banking operations by enabling customers to open accounts, conduct transactions and manage finances entirely online without visiting physical branches.

According to the bank, the platform has since evolved into a comprehensive digital ecosystem serving individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses through products designed to encourage savings, facilitate seamless payments and promote financial inclusion.

Wema Bank noted that ALAT’s growth over the years underscores the increasing acceptance of digital banking solutions across Nigeria’s financial sector.

Bank Launches “ALAT at 9” Campaign

To commemorate the anniversary, the bank unveiled the “ALAT at 9” campaign, a month-long customer engagement initiative featuring rewards, interactive activities and user-focused experiences.

Among the newly introduced features is “ALAT Wrapped,” a personalised summary tool that allows customers to review their activities and engagement on the platform.

The bank also introduced the “9 Features in 9 Days” challenge aimed at encouraging users to explore various functionalities on the application.

In addition, customers who complete their ninth transaction exactly at 9:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. during the campaign period will receive instant rewards.

A jingle challenge has also been launched to encourage creative participation among users.

Wema Bank CEO Speaks on Innovation

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the anniversary as a reflection of the bank’s innovation journey and customer-focused strategy.

“ALAT at nine is not just a celebration of time. It is a reflection of how far we have come and a clear indication of where we are going,” he said.

According to Oseni, the anniversary campaign is designed not only to reward customers but also to reinforce the bank’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation and improved customer experience.

Focus on Interactive Banking Experience

Also speaking, the Chief Digital Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, said the initiative was designed to transform routine banking into a more interactive and rewarding experience.

“With ALAT at 9, we are combining personalised insights, gamified missions and rewards to create a platform that responds to customers in a dynamic and engaging way,” Adeniyi stated.

He explained that the approach aligns with the bank’s long-term vision of building an intuitive and adaptive digital banking platform centred around customer needs.

Anniversary Activities Continue Through May

The bank disclosed that the anniversary activities commenced on May 2 and would run until May 31.

Customers were encouraged to participate by downloading or updating the ALAT application through relevant app stores.

According to Wema Bank, the celebration further highlights the institution’s leadership in digital banking innovation and its commitment to delivering efficient and technology-driven financial services.

As competition intensifies within Nigeria’s fintech and digital banking sector, Wema Bank says ALAT remains focused on innovation, customer satisfaction and expanding financial access through technology-enabled banking solutions.
