ENUGU, Nigeria — September 11, 2026 — Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has presented a newly compiled record of over 10,000 achievements, outlining major interventions across roads, education, primary healthcare, security, urban development and infrastructure—while positioning the administration on what he described as an “irreversible path to greatness.”
With roughly eight months remaining before the end of his first tenure, Dr. Peter Mbah on Thursday unveiled a compendium detailing the scale of work undertaken in critical sectors of the Enugu State economy. The governor said the document aligns with his administration’s Citizens Charter (Executive Order 001)—a policy framework implemented immediately after he was sworn in on May 29, 2023 to strengthen accountability, traceability and transparency.
At the International Conference Centre, Enugu, the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, represented Mbah as he officially rolled out the publication titled: “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State.” The governor stated that the compendium captures extensive projects executed across the state’s priority sectors.
Massive Delivery Claim: Roads, Schools and Healthcare at the Centre
According to the compendium, key highlights include:
- 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads
- Over 7,000 classrooms
- 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres
- Major urban and aviation-linked projects including Enugu Air and the New Enugu Smart City
Other items listed by the governor include the Enugu Command and Control Centre, expanded security infrastructure, increased investment in water systems, and the revamp of previously moribund assets.
Governor Notes Document Cut-Off, Says Actual Work Goes Beyond It
Addressing the limitations of the compilation, Mbah said the publication is not fully exhaustive.
He clarified that the compendium had a preparation cut-off running months behind, adding that it therefore does not completely represent all accomplishments delivered by the administration as of September 9, 2026.
Market, Investment and “Greatness” Narrative
In remarks to residents, Mbah acknowledged the hardships tied to difficult policy decisions taken by his administration. He reiterated that the government’s overarching aim is to reposition Enugu State as a high-growth economy and investment destination.
He urged citizens—especially those directly affected by tough choices—to continue believing in the administration’s long-term direction, describing the state’s projected trajectory as moving toward a $30 billion economy, with Enugu positioned as preferred ground for investment, business, tourism and living.
Mbah also emphasized that his intention is for Enugu to follow a path that does not depend on competing at the scale of Nigeria or “within Nigeria,” but rather establishes a trajectory of durable, local transformation.
Administrative and Fiscal Reforms Highlighted
In a welcome address, the Secretary to Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the state had pursued an extensive urban development agenda, including the New Enugu Smart City, environmental sustainability and broader urban renewal.
Onyia also outlined reforms in Enugu’s fiscal architecture, including:
- Revenue automation
- Restructuring and reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service
- Improved financial management and the Treasury Single Account
- Enterprise resource planning and wider institutional reforms
He further stated that the administration continued to invest in youth empowerment, women development, technology and skills acquisition, social protection, tourism, environmental sustainability and community development—insisting that the ultimate goal remains measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.
He summed up the philosophy of project delivery with the framing that every initiative targets communities, and that every policy ultimately connects to human outcomes.
Event Draws Political, Traditional and Economic Stakeholders
Multiple stakeholders—comprising political leaders, traditional and religious authorities, captains of industry, professionals, public servants and other community leaders—commended the administration’s interventions and the spread of projects across the state.
International Recognition: UEL Confers Doctor of Law on Mbah
Meanwhile, Mbah’s leadership was also highlighted outside the compendium launch when he was conferred a Doctor of Law, honoris causa by the University of East London (UEL) at its Docklands Campus.
The university’s leadership described the honour as recognition of Mbah’s track record spanning academics, entrepreneurship and governance, noting his earlier student leadership roles and achievements while at UEL.
In presenting the award, Vice-Provost (Business) and Executive Dean, Royal Docks School of Business and Law, Prof. Fatima Ana-Diab, cited Mbah’s record including transformation of a law students’ society during his time at UEL, participation in university representative structures, moot court successes and international competition representation.
Prof. Ana-Diab also referenced Mbah’s later academic pathway and professional development, including his progression through Nigerian legal training and further postgraduate studies abroad—alongside his transition into entrepreneurship and public service, including roles within Enugu State’s government before becoming governor in May 2023.
Mbah’s Acceptance Speech: Disruptive Innovation and Education
In his acceptance address, Mbah reiterated his commitment to disruptive innovation, education as a transformative tool, and the purpose of public service.
He stated that the administration invests 33% of the state budget in education, adding that Enugu is building schools, tech hubs and opportunities designed to equip young people for an economy increasingly shaped by knowledge, innovation and technology.
He also expressed deep gratitude to UEL for the honour, framing his journey from UEL to Enugu Government House as proof of the opportunities education can unlock—and the responsibility leaders must carry to create change for others.
Enugu Governor Seeks Mandate on Record of Delivery
As Enugu State continues to weigh the administration’s performance ahead of the next political cycle, Governor Peter Mbah’s milestone compendium and international recognition have reinforced his government’s message of wide-scale delivery, institutional reforms and long-term transformation.
While acknowledging that the document does not capture every project completed beyond its cut-off date, Mbah maintained that the direction is clear: Enugu, he said, is steadily moving toward a future defined by sustainable development, stronger infrastructure and expanded investment prospects.
