A woman, Hafsat Yusuf, has died hours after delivering quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, in a development that has drawn widespread sympathy.

The quintuplets—three boys and two girls—were delivered successfully via Caesarean section, but the mother passed away in the early hours of the following day.

Family Confirms Loss, Babies in Stable Condition

Hafsat’s husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed that she died around 1 a.m. on Thursday, hours after giving birth.

“She delivered the babies successfully in the afternoon, but we lost her in the early hours,” he said, describing the incident as a painful loss for the family.

Despite the tragedy, Nafiu disclosed that all five newborns are alive and currently under close medical supervision at the hospital.

Medical personnel confirmed that the infants are stable and receiving specialised care to support their survival and development.

Kano Government Steps In with Support

The Kano State Ministry of Health has announced that the state government will take full responsibility for the medical care of the quintuplets.

According to the ministry, the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services and reduce mortality rates.

Hospital sources also indicated that the babies are being closely monitored by specialists to ensure their well-being.
