Major roads on Lagos Island to be closed as authorities prepare for carnival procession.

The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions and restrictions ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026.
Authorities say the measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and hitch-free procession around Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.
In an official notice, the government said vehicular movement would be restricted along major roads adjoining Tafawa Balewa Square during the event.
Affected routes include King George V Road (by Mobil Filling Station), Flag House inbound TBS, Force Road inbound TBS, Onikan Roundabout inbound TBS, and WaterBoy Roundabout by Old Defence House.
Additionally, all link roads to Moloney Road—such as Military Road (by Old Defence Building), Ajasa Street, Boyle Street, and Hawley Street—will be closed to traffic for the duration of the carnival.
The government urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and comply with traffic directives.
Alternative Parking Arrangements
To manage parking demand, designated car parks have been provided for public use. These include the Yoruba Lawn Tennis Club Car Park, Zone 2 Car Park opposite Island Club, Museum Kitchen Car Park, and The Bell Car Park near Island Maternity.
Officials said the arrangements are intended to ease congestion and improve access to the event venue.
Traffic Management Measures
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed across diversion points to coordinate traffic and ensure compliance.
The state government appealed to residents and commuters for cooperation, noting that the restrictions are temporary and necessary for public safety and order.
Traffic disruptions on Lagos Island can significantly affect business activity and commuting patterns. Clear communication and effective traffic control will be critical to minimising delays and ensuring the success of the cultural event.
