ADC Hails Supreme Court Verdict Affirming Leadership, Vows Resistance as Atiku Urges Caution

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment affirming its leadership, pledging not to be intimidated, even as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar cautioned against premature celebration.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the ruling as a decisive validation of its leadership structure, confirming Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

The party congratulated its members and stakeholders nationwide, noting that the verdict reinforces internal legitimacy and strengthens its political standing.

Supreme Court Judgment Praised
The ADC commended the apex court for delivering what it described as a credible and unanimous decision.

“We commend the five-man panel of the Supreme Court, whose judgment has done great credit to the judiciary and our political system,” the statement said.

The ruling is expected to stabilise the party following months of internal disputes.

Atiku Warns Against Complacency
Reacting to the development, Atiku Abubakar urged party supporters and Nigerians not to interpret the judgment as the end of the political struggle.

“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation… no one should be lulled into complacency,” he said.

Atiku framed the verdict as a transition point from legal victory to political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

‘Struggle Far From Over’
While celebrating the outcome, the ADC stressed that the ruling does not mark the end of its internal or external challenges.

“This victory belongs to Nigerians… but the road ahead remains long in our collective mission to rebuild the country,” Atiku added.

He called on supporters to remain vigilant and engaged as political activities intensify.

Party Rejects Intimidation Claims
The ADC also alleged that the events leading to the legal dispute reflected attempts to weaken opposition forces through interference and bad faith.

However, the party maintained a firm stance, declaring its readiness to withstand political pressure.

“Let it be clearly stated: the ADC will not be intimidated, distracted, or silenced,” the statement emphasised.

The Supreme Court ruling is expected to reposition the ADC for renewed political engagement, as the party shifts focus toward alliance-building, grassroots mobilisation, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
