Arsenal FC suffered a major setback in the Premier League title race on Saturday, falling 2-1 at home to AFC Bournemouth in a result that could reshape the run-in.

The defeat has handed Manchester City a crucial lifeline as the season enters its decisive phase.

Bournemouth stunned the Emirates Stadium crowd by taking an early lead through Junior Kroupi in the 17th minute, capitalising on a deflection off William Saliba to score from close range.

Arsenal responded before the break, with Viktor Gyokeres converting from the penalty spot in the 35th minute after a handball by Ryan Christie.

Despite the equaliser, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to impose themselves, creating few clear chances against a disciplined and energetic Bournemouth side managed by Andoni Iraola.

Scott Seals Crucial Win
The visitors restored their lead in the 74th minute through Alex Scott, who finished off a well-worked attacking move with a powerful strike past goalkeeper David Raya.

Arsenal pushed for a late equaliser but were unable to break down Bournemouth’s defence, managing just three shots on target throughout the match.

The defeat marks only their second home loss in the league this season but extends a worrying run of three consecutive domestic defeats at the Emirates across competitions.

Title Race Intensifies
With six matches remaining, Arsenal remain nine points clear at the top of the table, but the pressure is mounting.

Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, have the opportunity to cut the gap to three points if they defeat Chelsea FC and subsequently beat Arsenal in a crucial summit clash at the Etihad Stadium next week.

The result has significantly altered the dynamics of the title race, with City now firmly back in contention.

Performance Concerns for Arsenal
Arsenal entered the fixture buoyed by a narrow 1-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg earlier in the week.

However, their domestic form has raised concerns, with recent defeats in the League Cup final and FA Cup adding to growing doubts about their consistency.

Arteta attempted to spark a turnaround in the second half with attacking substitutions, including Eberechi Eze, Max Dowman, and Leandro Trossard, but the changes failed to deliver the desired impact.

While Arsenal remain favourites to secure their first Premier League title since 2004, Saturday’s defeat has injected fresh uncertainty into the race.

With Manchester City holding games in hand and momentum shifting, the battle for the title appears far from decided.
