Governor downplays speculation, unveils committees for 25-year tourism master plan.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed rumours of an alleged impeachment plot against him, describing the speculation as unfounded.
The governor made the remarks while inaugurating committees to drive the state’s long-term tourism development strategy.
Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration of key tourism development committees, Makinde reacted to circulating claims that he could face impeachment, treating the issue with a light-hearted comment.
“This administration will come to an end in one year and one month. So what will happen next? Well, that is if I am not impeached, then,” he said.
The rumours had alleged that a meeting took place between former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, over plans to remove the governor. However, the claims remain unverified.
Makinde did not directly engage the details of the allegation but reiterated his administration’s focus on governance and long-term development priorities.
He announced the inauguration of two committees — the Organising Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, scheduled for May 12 to 14, and the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee.
According to the governor, the master plan is intended to serve as a long-term policy framework to guide tourism investment and development in the state beyond the lifespan of his administration.
Makinde urged members of both committees to commit fully to their assignments, noting that the initiatives are critical to unlocking the state’s economic potential.
“As I said in my remarks, this is serious work and will require active participation. My expectation is that members of both committees will give their best to ensure these initiatives benefit the good people of Oyo State,” he said.

The dismissal highlights ongoing political tensions in Oyo State while reinforcing the governor’s attempt to shift focus toward economic development. The proposed tourism master plan could shape long-term investment strategy if effectively implemented.
