Party says preparations for 2027 elections remain on course despite recent legal setback

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to internal unity, the rule of law and preparations for the 2027 general elections, despite recent legal challenges affecting the party’s registration.
The assurance came after a courtesy visit by a senior party official, identified as RMK, to the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja.
According to the party, the meeting formed part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening internal cohesion, strategic planning and organizational resilience as the NDC positions itself ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.
The visit comes only days after the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside an earlier judgment that had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party, a development that has generated significant legal and political debate.
Leadership Consultations Continue
Speaking after the meeting, RMK described the engagement as part of the party’s sustained efforts to consolidate unity and reinforce confidence among members nationwide.
According to him, the NDC leadership remains focused on building a strong political platform capable of providing an alternative vision for governance.
He emphasized that the party would continue engaging its leaders and stakeholders while strengthening its structures across the country.
Confidence in the Judicial Process
Reacting to the ongoing legal dispute surrounding the party’s registration, RMK said the NDC remained firmly committed to constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
He expressed confidence that the judicial process would ultimately provide clarity on the issues before the courts, stressing that temporary legal setbacks would not derail the party’s long-term objectives.
“As true democrats, we remain committed to the rule of law and have absolute confidence in the judicial process,” he stated.
He added that the party’s aspirations were rooted in the principles of justice, equity and democratic participation.
Call for Calm Among Members
The party also appealed to its members, supporters and sympathizers across Nigeria to remain calm and avoid actions capable of undermining the ongoing legal process.
RMK urged party faithful to remain united and focused while awaiting the outcome of judicial proceedings.
He expressed optimism that the party would overcome its present challenges through lawful means and sustained political engagement.
2027 Preparations Unaffected
Despite the uncertainty created by recent court decisions, the NDC maintained that preparations for the 2027 general elections remain a strategic priority.
Party officials say consultations with stakeholders and organizational activities will continue in accordance with the law while awaiting the final resolution of the registration dispute.
The leadership reiterated its belief that the movement remains driven by the collective aspirations of Nigerians seeking democratic reforms and inclusive governance.
The latest meeting between RMK and National Leader Seriake Dickson underscores the NDC’s determination to maintain party cohesion amid ongoing legal uncertainty.
While the registration dispute remains before the courts, the party insists it will pursue its political objectives through constitutional means, expressing confidence that the judicial process will ultimately determine its legal status.
For now, the NDC appears intent on keeping its members mobilized and its political structures engaged as attention gradually shifts toward preparations for the 2027 general elections.
