A strongly worded open letter addressed to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has triggered fresh debate within Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The letter, authored by diaspora commentator Kio Amachree, calls for a more aggressive opposition strategy while levelling serious allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.

In the letter dated April 2026, Amachree, who identified himself as President of Worldview International based in Stockholm, said his support for Obi in the 2023 election was rooted in confidence in the former Anambra governor’s competence and approach to governance.

However, he argued that Nigeria’s political system operates beyond conventional democratic expectations, describing it as deeply entrenched and resistant to reform through standard electoral processes.

Amachree urged Obi to adopt a more assertive political posture, stating that future elections would require strategic intensity rather than cautious engagement.

He criticised what he described as an overly restrained opposition style, warning that Nigeria’s political terrain demands a more forceful approach to counter incumbency power.

The letter also contained allegations against President Tinubu, including references to past legal matters and claims of opaque governance practices. These claims were presented as part of the writer’s argument for increased scrutiny and accountability in public office.
