The Nigerian Army has concluded pre-deployment training for troops assigned to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), charging them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and teamwork during the mission.

A total of 186 personnel successfully completed the intensive training programme designed to prepare them for peacekeeping operations in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan.

Military authorities emphasised the importance of adhering strictly to the highest standards of conduct, stressing a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of abuse, including sexual exploitation and misconduct.

The troops were also urged to act as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria, maintaining integrity and respect for human rights while carrying out their duties under the United Nations mandate.

The training covered critical areas such as rules of engagement, civilian protection, conflict resolution, and cultural sensitivity, all aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness in complex peacekeeping environments.

Upholding Nigeria’s Reputation
The Army leadership noted that Nigeria has built a strong reputation in global peacekeeping operations and called on the troops to sustain that legacy through exemplary conduct and professionalism.

They further highlighted the need for cohesion and teamwork, noting that collaboration remains essential for mission success in multinational operations such as UNISFA.

Focus on Accountability
Reiterating the United Nations’ strict compliance framework, the military warned that any breach of conduct would attract disciplinary measures, underscoring accountability as a cornerstone of modern peacekeeping.
