Computer engineering expert set to become youngest registrar in JAMB history as Oloyede exits office July 2026

ABUJA —President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu Picks Technology Expert for JAMB Leadership
According to the Presidency, Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University with extensive expertise in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reforms.
The statement described the incoming registrar as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, noting that he would become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement said.
Strong Academic and International Credentials
The Presidency highlighted Aina’s academic background, stating that he holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent.
He also obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
In addition, the new JAMB registrar completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Over 15 Years in Digital Reforms, Examination Integrity
The statement further revealed that Aina has more than 15 years of professional experience advising federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reforms, and systems design.
He reportedly served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board on ICT systems and examination integrity.
The Presidency also noted that Aina belongs to several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Tinubu Seeks Continuity After Oloyede Era
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under the administration of outgoing registrar, Professor Oloyede.
“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement added.
Oloyede, who has led JAMB since 2016, is widely credited with introducing reforms aimed at improving examination transparency, revenue generation, and digital efficiency within the board.
The appointment of Professor Segun Aina signals the Tinubu administration’s continued emphasis on technology-driven reforms and institutional modernization within Nigeria’s education sector. Stakeholders are expected to closely watch how the incoming registrar sustains and expands ongoing reforms in the country’s tertiary admissions system.
