Nigerian Army Promotes Six Majors to Lieutenant Colonels in Lagos

The Nigerian Army has promoted six Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel within the 81 Division, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and operational efficiency.

The promotion ceremony was held at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Adebayo Babalola, who presided over the ceremony, decorated the newly promoted officers and commended their dedication, discipline, and professionalism.

The officers elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel are A. Sanusi, A.L. Lawal, L.A. Ishaku, B.J. Gimba, M.B. Sifawa, and G.O. Uwagboe.

They currently serve in key operational and administrative roles across the division, including intelligence, training, education, and regimental duties.

Call for Greater Responsibility
Addressing the officers, Maj.-Gen. Babalola described the promotion as a recognition of their consistent performance and commitment to service.

He emphasised that advancement in the military is not merely ceremonial but reflects the institution’s confidence in an officer’s ability to assume higher responsibilities.

“I have carefully observed your career progression and I am confident that greater responsibilities lie ahead if you remain committed and focused,” he stated.

Charge to Uphold Professional Standards
The GOC urged the newly promoted officers to remain disciplined and demonstrate exemplary leadership in their respective assignments.

He noted that the new rank comes with increased expectations, calling on them to redouble their efforts in service to the nation.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Musa Yahaya, the Army reiterated its commitment to professionalism and excellence, urging the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The promotion underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to recognise merit and enhance operational leadership within its ranks, as the institution continues to play a critical role in national security.
