Plateau governor assures grieving residents of intensified security as Federal Government pledges relief support after deadly Bassa attack.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Monday visited the Nbra Zongo community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State following a deadly Friday night attack that left at least 11 people dead and several others critically injured.
The governor, accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, assured residents that the state government would not surrender any part of Plateau territory to terrorists.
Governor Vows to Defend Plateau Communities
Addressing grieving residents during the visit, Mutfwang condemned the killings and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security across affected communities.
“No part of Plateau land will be ceded to terrorists,” the governor declared while sympathising with families who lost loved ones during the attack.
He also commended residents for exercising restraint and refusing to engage in reprisals despite the provocation.
The governor stressed that security deployment would be strengthened in vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.
Farmers Encouraged Ahead of Planting Season
Mutfwang urged residents, particularly farmers, not to abandon their farmlands as the planting season approaches.
According to him, the state government is collaborating with security agencies to create a safer environment that would enable agricultural activities to continue without fear.
The attack has heightened concerns over recurring violence in Plateau communities, especially in farming settlements frequently targeted by armed assailants.
Federal Government Promises Support for Victims
Minister Bernard Doro, who accompanied the governor and is an indigene of Irigwe land, also expressed condolences to affected families and communities.
He assured residents that the Federal Government would intensify efforts toward protecting lives and property in the state.
The minister further pledged that his ministry would provide relief materials and humanitarian assistance to victims and displaced families affected by the attack.
Renewed Concerns Over Plateau Insecurity
The latest attack in Bassa Local Government Area adds to the growing security challenges confronting Plateau State in recent years.
Communities across the state have repeatedly suffered violent attacks linked to armed groups, leading to loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of farmlands and property.
Authorities say ongoing security operations are aimed at containing the violence and restoring stability to affected areas.
As residents mourn those killed in the latest attack, both the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring that those behind the violence are brought to justice.
The visit by Governor Mutfwang and Minister Doro is expected to reassure residents amid growing fears over renewed insecurity in the state.
