ABUJA, Nigeria — July 16, 2026

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially released the names of 50,000 successful candidates recruited into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), marking a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing drive to strengthen policing capacity and improve internal security nationwide.

The announcement follows months of screening, documentation, physical fitness assessments and written examinations conducted under what the Commission described as a transparent, inclusive and merit-based recruitment process involving key government institutions and oversight bodies.

The successful candidates are expected to proceed to designated police training colleges across the country, where they will undergo final medical examinations, documentation and basic police training before eventual deployment.

Recruitment Portal Opens for Candidates

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani (or use the official spokesperson named in your verified source if different), the PSC directed all applicants who participated in the recently concluded written examination to check their recruitment status through the Commission’s official recruitment portal beginning Thursday.

According to the Commission, successful applicants will also receive official notifications through the email addresses and telephone numbers provided during the recruitment application process.

The dual notification system, the PSC said, is intended to ensure that qualified candidates receive timely information regarding the next phase of the exercise.

Medical Screening Before Final Admission

The Commission explained that selection into the recruitment list does not automatically guarantee admission into police training institutions.

Instead, all successful candidates will first undergo comprehensive medical examinations conducted by the Nigeria Police medical team immediately upon reporting to their assigned training colleges.

Candidates who fail to satisfy the required medical standards will be declared medically unfit and withdrawn from the exercise.

The PSC stated that only applicants who successfully complete both the documentation process and medical evaluation will proceed with formal police training.

Failure to Report Means Automatic Withdrawal

The Commission warned that successful candidates who fail to report within the stipulated period would be deemed to have voluntarily declined the offer.

Officials stressed that adherence to reporting schedules would be strictly enforced to ensure the timely commencement of training nationwide.

Dates, reporting times and designated training institutions are expected to be communicated individually to successful applicants through official channels.

Documents Required for Resumption

The PSC directed successful candidates to report with the following documents:

  • Training call-up slip;
  • National Identification Number (NIN) slip;
  • Bank Verification Number (BVN) slip;
  • Original educational certificates;
  • Photocopies of credentials; and
  • Other documents and personal items specified on the recruitment portal.

The Commission advised candidates to rely solely on official communication and avoid fraudulent individuals claiming to facilitate admission into the Nigeria Police Force.

Multi-Agency Oversight

According to the PSC, the recruitment exercise was conducted in collaboration with several federal institutions to guarantee transparency, fairness and compliance with the Federal Character Principle.

The participating institutions include:

  • Nigeria Police Force;
  • Federal Character Commission;
  • Federal Ministry of Police Affairs;
  • State Career Guidance and Counselling Departments; and
  • Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

The Commission maintained that the involvement of multiple stakeholders was designed to promote accountability and public confidence in the recruitment process.

Strengthening Police Manpower

The recruitment forms part of the Federal Government’s broader security strategy aimed at increasing police personnel to address rising security challenges across the country.

Nigeria has continued to face multiple security threats, including banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, communal violence, cybercrime and urban criminality.

Security experts have repeatedly argued that increasing police manpower, alongside improved training, equipment, intelligence gathering and welfare, remains essential to enhancing law enforcement effectiveness.

The addition of 50,000 new constables is expected to significantly boost the operational strength of the Nigeria Police Force once training is completed.

Recruitment and Public Confidence

Recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force has historically attracted intense public interest, with previous exercises often criticised over allegations of irregularities and inadequate transparency.

The PSC’s emphasis on a comprehensive and inclusive recruitment process reflects growing efforts to strengthen public trust in police recruitment and ensure that appointments comply with constitutional and statutory requirements.

Analysts note that maintaining transparency throughout the remaining stages—including medical screening, training and deployment—will be critical to sustaining confidence in the exercise.

The publication of the list of 50,000 successful police constable recruits marks another major step in the Federal Government’s efforts to reinforce the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.

As successful applicants prepare for medical screening and documentation, attention will now shift to the integrity of the training process and the eventual deployment of the new officers to support policing operations across Nigeria.

The exercise is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve internal security, expand community policing and strengthen law enforcement nationwide.
