Rivers Police Arrest Suspected Serial Kidnapper Linked to Organ Harvesting Ring

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a suspected serial kidnapper, identified as Kelechi Wofuru, over allegations of abduction, murder, and organ harvesting in parts of the state.

Authorities say the suspect, who reportedly operated for years with a network of accomplices, specialised in targeting commercial drivers and passengers along the Omagwa–Isiokpo–Elele Road corridor.

Arrest Followed Intelligence Operation

The arrest followed a coordinated intelligence effort involving the police and members of the SafeCity Volunteer Foundation, led by security advocate Harrison Gwamnishu.

According to investigators, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Special Intelligence and Operations Unit of the Rivers State Police Command.

A member of the volunteer team, Adebayo Steve, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended after sustained tracking and investigation into a string of disappearances linked to the route.

Suspect Leads Police to Victim’s Remains

In a significant breakthrough, the suspect reportedly led security operatives to a forest in Ubima, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area, where the remains of his most recent victim were discovered.

The victim, identified as Ifeanyi Ibobo, a commercial bus driver, had earlier been declared missing, prompting a widespread search by family members and associates.

His decomposing body was eventually recovered at the location identified by the suspect.

Allegations of Multiple Victims

Investigators revealed that the suspect may be linked to multiple cases of abduction and murder, with reports suggesting that at least seven victims remain unaccounted for.

Security sources allege that the criminal operation involved dismemberment of victims’ bodies for financial gain, raising concerns about a possible organ trafficking network.

Previous Arrest Raises Concerns

Further revelations indicate that Wofuru had previously been arrested on kidnapping-related charges and was arraigned in court in November last year but was later released.

The development has sparked questions about the criminal justice process and the circumstances surrounding his earlier release.

Police Intensify Investigation

The Rivers State Police Command has assured residents that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected gang.

Authorities also pledged to strengthen surveillance and security operations along identified hotspots to curb rising cases of kidnapping in the state.

Rising Security Concerns

The case has once again highlighted growing concerns over violent crimes, particularly kidnapping and organ trafficking, in parts of Rivers State.

Residents and stakeholders are calling for stricter enforcement, improved intelligence gathering, and swift prosecution of suspects to deter further criminal activities.
