According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Funsho Adebiyi, the fare reduction will apply to all passenger services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
The ministry said the policy takes effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and will remain valid until Monday, June 1, 2026.
Officials explained that the initiative was designed to reduce transportation burdens for Nigerians travelling across the country during the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
Under the arrangement, passengers will pay half of the existing approved ticket rates on all NRC passenger train routes nationwide.
The ministry also disclosed that travellers who purchased tickets before the announcement would receive a rebate equivalent to 50 per cent of the original fare, which can be reused for future train travel within the specified period.
