LAGOS, NIGERIA – Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances along the Lekki–Epe corridor in what authorities describe as a major intelligence-led security operation.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, as investigators widen efforts to uncover the network behind the movement of the materials reportedly destined for the South-East region.
Intelligence-Led Operation on Lekki–Epe Axis
According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, the interception followed credible intelligence received by the command regarding the movement of suspicious cargo out of Lagos State.
Tactical units of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were immediately deployed, leading to the interception of the vehicle before it could exit the state.
The commissioner confirmed that the operation was executed without resistance and resulted in the arrest of all individuals onboard the truck.
Military Camouflage Shipment Raises Security Concerns
Preliminary findings revealed that the truck was transporting:
- 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms
- 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances
Security officials say the discovery raises serious concerns about the possible diversion and misuse of military-grade clothing materials, particularly in relation to recent cases involving criminal groups disguising themselves as security operatives.
Authorities are investigating whether the materials were intended for criminal networks operating across multiple states.
Destination Linked to South-East Corridor
Commissioner Fatai disclosed that intelligence suggests the consignment was being transported from Lagos to a destination in the South-East.
Investigators are now working to trace the supply chain and identify individuals or organizations connected to the shipment.
“The vehicle was intercepted while it was being moved out of Lagos State. It was headed towards the South-East, and we acted immediately on intelligence received,” the police commissioner stated.
Suspects in Custody as Investigation Deepens
Four suspects have been taken into custody and are currently undergoing interrogation.
Police sources indicate that the suspects are cooperating with investigators to identify higher-level coordinators behind the movement of the intercepted goods.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a broader criminal logistics network operating across state lines.
Drug Cartons Discovered Alongside Camouflage Materials
In addition to the military uniforms, police confirmed the presence of 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances concealed within the shipment.
Forensic analysis is underway to determine the nature of the substances, while narcotics and anti-smuggling units have joined the investigation.

The Lagos Police Command expressed concern over the increasing use of military camouflage by criminal elements, particularly in kidnapping and armed robbery operations.
Commissioner Fatai noted that such materials have been observed in past incidents involving banditry and impersonation of security personnel.
“We have seen cases where criminals use these uniforms during attacks. We are investigating what these items were intended for and who is behind this movement,” he said.
